From the Field, For the Field
At R'n'D, we know a thing or two about dealing with field trucks. We know what it's like to throw your gear into a dirty pick-up with an engine light or oil change warning (or both) and drive to site because nobody has time to deal with maintenance. We know what it's like to get blasted in the face with mine dust after turning on the AC. We know you don't always have time to fret over vehicles when there's work to do...
During a field trip, Derek Brown (R'n'D Founder), was driving a poorly maintained company pick-up that was a deep pothole away from critical failure. Of course, the truck found that pothole, leaving Derek to find a mine-ready truck in the middle of a project, leaving sub-contractors and equipment on stand-by mode.
After driving several hours to town, Derek spent nearly $1,000 hunting down non-permanent (AKA: flimsy garbage) equipment that fit the rental truck so it would be mine-ready enough to get back through the gates. A day and a half later, he was back on site with a poorly-equipped truck, serious time and money sunk, project delays, and a lack of confidence that the tires could handle the rugged mine roads.
A few days later the company truck was ready to limp along until the next failure. Once the rental was done the excess gear was stuffed into a storage locker, destined to be forgotten.
The following year, Derek’s fieldwork took him to Northern Canada where there was no company truck. He rented trucks from a local truck rental company that were not only mine-ready, but as reliable as they were luxurious.
After comparing this latest experience to his previous one, Derek realized the direct cost and project delays associated with sourcing and outfitting a typical rental truck mid-project had cost his company significantly more than the cost to rent a mine-ready truck. That’s when he decided to offer the Kootenays a well-deserved, premium mine-ready truck rental service.
When you rent from R'n'D you get a clean, comfortable, low-mileage truck with all of the site-access requirements taken care of for you. No more maintenance. No more cleaning. No more dust clouds, mystery smells, or reliability issues - just a reliable vehicle that allows you to focus on the project.
Today, Derek runs R’N’D Rentals with occasional (and loving) help from his girlfriend, Reed, from their home, in Cranbrook, British Columbia.
